Klim Catches Fire with “Everything Burns”

Klim Catches Fire with “Everything Burns”

(PRWEB) March 11, 2004

Cult novelist Christopher Klim, author of the acclaimed novel Jesus Lives in Trenton, is garnering terrific early praise for his follow-up Everything Burns. Delivered through the eyes of a photojournalist, Klim uses his trademark city grit and striking scenarios to track the course of a deadly serial arsonist in Texas. Every thing Burns is the product of years of analysis into the rare compulsive disorder of pyromania.

“It practically didn’t get published,” says Klim. “In this Taliban-like atmosphere surrounding art, I wasn’t certain the public was open to an honest portrayal of pyromania. I take you inside his thoughts. It’s not pretty.”

Booklist calls it “absording reading,” and BookCrazy Radio says, “Klim employs the exact same engaging mixture of wisecracking characters and dramatic action as observed on MASH and NYPD Blue.” Even tough literary critics like J.E. Price of Circle Magazine claims, “It’s much better than its illustrious predecessor. … the bullet train of his prose is even slicker and sexier.”

Klim is no stranger to praise, being compared to such greats John Steinbeck, Dashiell Hammett, and Raymond Carver. “It’s really nice to be compared,” Klim says. “People didn’t know how to explain those authors at initial either. I suppose that makes me distinctive and explains why the corporate publishing business often has trouble slotting me on the shelves.”

The central character of both novels is photojournalist Boot Means—a resourceful young man who grew up in foster care and attempts to develop his name in the news industry. “My intention was to location a marginalized member of society—someone who was abandoned and forgotten as a child—and location him in three diverse scenarios. Each time, he seizes the story that no one else wants, however becomes the central focus of day-to-day community life. It’s a study of how a town reacts to Boot’s desire to be accepted. Frequently outsiders are assumed to be criminals. This is what Boot and the arsonist have in common.”

On tour, Klim gives crowded writing and publishing seminars along the east coast and is known for his engaging presentations and quick results as a writing coach. His free resource tool at http://www.WritersNotes.com boasts thousands of registered members worldwide.

Klim is also the senior editor of the forthcoming Writers Notes Magazine (April 2004)—a magazine of contemporary fiction, essays, interviews, poetry, and visual arts. The 1st issue consists of the outcomes of the annual Writers Notes Book Awards, which seeks excellence in eleven distinct categories of independent publishing.
